Ministers will exchange of views on the outlook for the first semester of 2017; examine developments in Syria following the discussion at its last meeting; discuss the EU’s role in supporting a full ceasefire and a genuine political transition in Syria under the auspices of the UN, as well as in ensuring full humanitarian access and assistance throughout the country; discuss the Middle East peace process, following the adoption of UN Security Council resolution 2334 (2016) and the Paris conference on 15 January 2017.

Energy efficient finance market place
This event will gather participants working on energy efficiency finance from the financial sector, ESCOs, project developers and public authorities. It will last 1.5 days and will be a mix of plenary discussions and 24 breakout sessions with a focus on practical experiences and projects, looking at 4 thematic tracks: standardisation and benchmarking, innovative financing schemes, aggregation of public assets, aggregation of private assets.

Public Hearing on Corporate tax reforms package with focus on the common (consolidated) corporate tax base
In October 2016 the European Commission presented proposals for corporate tax reforms, including an improved common (consolidated) corporate tax base (CCCTB) that provides Member States with a new system for taxing multinationals. The EESC is currently drawing up three interlinked opinions on these proposals and in this framework organises a public hearing on the corporate tax reforms package, with a focus on the CCCTB.

Stakeholders Consultation: Action Plan on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is drafting an opinion on the «Action Plan on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030». The Rapporteur of the opinion, Adam Banaszak (PL/ECR), Member of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Regional Assembly, together with his expert, Pawel Modrzynski, will meet representatives of local and regional associations and other stakeholders for a consultation and an exchange of views on the relevant topics of this opinion.

Forum on Leadership Policy for Equity and Learning; Take it to the Student
The Ministry for Education and Employment collaborates with the European Policy Network on School Leadership in convening this conference on school leadership, equity and inclusivity, as the first event of the Education Week. This conference will provide the opportunity to promote the exchange of good practices and development of innovative approaches to effective educational leadership that takes equity, social justice and inclusivity seriously, through a mix of key note presentations, round-table colloquia and breakout sessions.

Workshop on Climate Change
Malta organises an informal Workshop on Climate change on issues which are pending for negotiation following the UNFCCC twenty-second session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22), the twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 12), and the first session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 1) and those which will be negotiated under the technical UNFCCC bodies in May 2017. The main goal of the Maltese Presidency Workshop on Climate Change is to start the preparations for a coordinated EU position used for negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Strengthening forced return monitoring systems in Member States
In cooperation with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and Frontex, FRA will provide an intense capacity-building workshop for newly appointed and experienced forced return monitors. The objective of the workshop will be to familiarise the monitors with their key roles and responsibilities when observing forced return operations, to analyse the fundamental rights dimension of the whole procedure and to report identified issues.

ECHR Judgments
The European Court of Human Rights will deliver a Grand Chamber judgment in the case of Hutchinson v. the United Kingdom. The case concerns the complaint by a man serving a whole life sentence for murder that his sentence amounts to inhuman and degrading treatment as he has no hope of release. Furthermore, the European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing 31 judgments concerning Austria, Belgium, Georgia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey.
