Calls for better EU Migration Policy
Calls for a better EU Migration Policy were made this week, coming from different sides:
Amnesty International today denounced ‘failing EU migration policies’ in a report that is based on research missions to Serbia, Hungary, Greece and Macedonia as well as interviews with refugees and migrants. The report points to the dramatic increase of migrants and refugees travelling to the EU, and the violation of human rights, ill-treatment and abuse they often endure. Amnesty calls for a ‘broader rethink of EU migration and asylum policies’.
Ship owners at the same time call upon the EU to step up rescue efforts in the Mediterranean. Commercial vessels saved around 40.000 people from see last year, and will continue to do so, but they are not equipped for search and rescue operations.
