Today, the European Environment State and Outlook report has been published by the European Environment Agency (EEA).
The report, that informs the next five years of EU policy making, presents some important conclusions, including:
- Europe needs to introduce farther-reaching policies if it wants to achieve its long-term climate targets – referring both to the 2030 and 2050 targets on decarbonisation.
- The EU is failing to create a circular economy that boosts resource efficiency and protects the environment – with the ditching of the Circular Economy Package last week, the new proposal expected by the end of 2015 needs to be much improved.
Tomorrow, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Karmenu Vella hosts a press conference to launch the EEA report.
