Bosnia and Herzegovina apply for EU membership

The Financial Times reports that Bosina and Herzegovina might apply for EU membership by the end of this month, after speaking to Igor Crnadak, the Bosnian Foreign Minister. According to Crnadak, the decision to apply this month was made at the end of 2015, and that the government will try to stick to this, while at the same time trying to meet the expectations of Brussels – that prefers a complete and credible application over a quick one. He hoped to receive official candidate status within 12 to 18 months of applying.

According to Crnadak, the application would not be against the liking of Russia, insisting that their European integration was “fully acceptable» for Moscow, but that Bosnia will not pursue NATO membership.
